Avocado toast is a popular brunch food nowadays. I’m actually one of its loyal victims. Every time I have brunch, this is my favorite meal. So, I’m wondering why I’m not making it at home. It is actually pretty easy to make and cheaper than if you get it from a restaurant. I’m usually paying 15-20€ for each avocado toast I’ve ordered. And if I make them at home, I can eat them 3-4 times with the same amount of money…
Here’s the typically avocado toast I had at the restaurant. They used whole grain bread, mashed avocado, a slice of salmon, a poached egg or soft-boiled egg, and served it with some salad.

So let’s motivate ourselves to save some money and make our homemade avocado toast.
The Ingredients
Mashed avocado
1 well-ripened avocado
Half lime
1 teaspoon of chili flakes
Pinch of salt
1 tablespoon of coriander/cilantro leaves (optional)
1 teaspoon of shallots (optional)
Method
- Cut the avocado into half, take out the bulb out.
- Spoon the avocado into a bowl, put half of lime juice.
- Add 1 teaspoon of red chilli flakes
- Add pinch of salt
- Add 1 teaspoon of shallots (thin sliced)
- Add 1 tablespoon of corriander leaves
- Crush and mix it well using a fork
Voilà your guacamole or smashes avocado is ready.
Spread it with slitghly butter and toasted whole-grain bread. Then, feel free to add extras that you like.
Extras
- 2 slices of salmon (you can replace it with any other charcuterie you like; I love bresaola and pastrami).
- A bowl of salads with mustard dressing (I bought prepared salad dressing, so you can replace it according to your taste).
- Poached egg (3 minutes in boiling water without shell)
- soft-boiled egg (5 minutes in boiling water with the shell on)
- fried egg or scrambled eggs (really depends on your preference)

Beside this super easy dishes, this dishes will boost your energy to start the day and it’s very healthy too..
